COMMUNICATION

 The Evangel

St. John's publishes its newsletter, The Evangel, nine times a year.  It is prepared by a team of writers, editors and publisher. It is prepared for mailing by the Parish Office and the Tuesday Group.  The Evangel is also avialble on this site. The Evangel contains a column written by Diana Clark, Rector, as well as news of parishioners and of our ministries both within St. John's and beyond.  Readers will also find introductions to newcomers, book reviews, a monthly calendar and announcements of upcoming events.  A team of parish talents contributes to the Evangel.  Anyone with basic skills on Microsoft Word or desktop publishing can participate, from assembling the articles gathered from Parish members into one document, to editing for content and publication, to layout.

 Parish E-mail List

Over 200 parishioners are included in the parish e-mail list which is managed by the rector.  I try to send out communications weekly that help keep us connected to St. John’s and the church at large.  Pastoral care concerns are sometimes included in these e-mails, as is information about events or committee meetings.  Occasionally, I send out a personal reflection or something that’s just fun.  If you’d like to be on this list, please e-mail me at revddclark@comcast.net.

St. John’s History Committee and Archives

St. John’s Episcopal Church began as a mission of St. Luke’s Church in 1896.  In March 1901 permission was obtained from the diocese to become a formal mission named St. John’s Diocesan Mission.  On June 2, 1902, St. John’s was declared a self-supporting parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark. The history of St. John’s is documented in the church archives, which consist of Vestry minutes, correspondence, architectural drawings, photographs, printed materials, newspaper clippings, and audio tapes.  The History Committee is interested in pursuing projects, such as oral history interviews, that will give St. John’s parishioners a greater appreciation for the work done by those who came before us and the community we have today. If you are interested in volunteering, have an idea for a history project, or have materials you would like to donate to the archives, please contact church office.

 Publicity

Events, programs and “newsworthy” items are routinely shared with the press as a means of reaching out to the community with news about St. John’s.  Individuals interested in writing press releases and contacting the media to spread the good news about St. John’s are welcome.

 The Web

Saint John's is working on updating our web site design and content. We would love to hear from interested parish members about their experiences at Saint John's. What was it like attending your first service at Saint John's? Perhaps you have special interests you would like to share? How about church event photos or special event notices that need posting? Please let us know via email: StJsWeb@aol.com

 Bulletin Boards

The Bulletin Boards in our Parish Hall are in need of TLC.  The boards could be a great place to share news, celebrate parishioners and/or events.  Volunteers are needed – this could be a great family project!
